THE convenors of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) Davao de Oro chapter are still hopeful that their chairman, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will reconsider running for president in the 2022 elections.

HNP Regional Treasurer and Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said this in a press conference on Thursday, October 14, despite the recent pronouncement of the mayor that she is already out of the presidential race.

Uy said they are still firm in supporting Duterte-Carpio, whom they believe should continue the legacy of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, who is set to step down in mid-2022.

“Naa pama’y (There is still until) November 15 to wait to have a decision, but gusto lang namo nga i-reiterate nga kasabot sab mi sa bug-at nga nadesisyonan ni Mayor Inday, and whatever nga na-decision, nga mag-presidente o magpabilin sa pagka-mayor sa (we wanted to reiterate that we understand that is a heavy decision for Mayor Inday, and whatever her decision, to run as president or stay as mayor in) Davao City, we fully commit and support her decision,” Tyron said.

Arturo T. Uy, Run Sara Run convenor and Senior Board Member in Davao de Oro, said they will continue to rally for the candidacy of the Presidential daughter.

“Daghan kaayo nga nag-asa atong mga Countrymen for continuity sa gihimo sa imong amahan nga si PRRD... (Many of our countrymen are still hoping for the continuity of her father’s accomplishment) among the presidentiables you are the best quality,” he said.

“Kung puwede lang (If possible) we begging you to give a call for the majority of the people specially the Davao Region, for you to run, and definitely manalo ka talaga, andyan kami sayo (you will win and we will be there by your side) and we will campaign hard when the time comes nga ire-consider nimo ang desisyon nga modagan gyod pagka-presidente (that you would reconsider your decision to run for the presidency),” Arturo said.

Duterte-Carpio had filed her COC on October 2 as a reelectionist for the same position.

The mayor, in previous statements, has been firm on no longer running for presidency due to her desire to finish her third and last term.

The President, during his visit in Davao City, also confirmed that her daughter is out of the presidential race.

Duterte-Carpio is currently recovering from Covid-19 after experiencing mild symptoms.

According to the Commission on Elections guideline, the substitution of candidates will be until November 15.

Meanwhile, Senator Christopher Lawrence Go denied speculations that he was paving the way for the vice presidential candidacy of another individual through substitution for the 2022 elections.

In an interview Thursday afternoon, Go said he is well-decided to run for the country's second-highest post in next year's polls.

“As far as I am concerned, I am very sure to run for this position. So I accepted the challenge to run as VP candidate of the PDP-Laban,” he added.

Go said despite the overwhelming support, he will not be complacent about his chances in the polls.

The senator, who is gunning for a vice-presidential position in the 2022 polls, vowed to continue the projects and programs initiated by the Duterte Administration., pointing out the importance of the "Build, Build, Build" program. (With reports from PNA)
