Lacson: Scouting in the new normal

THE Boy Scouts of the Philippines Central Luzon Region shall be holding its 2021 Regional Digital Scout Jamboree from October 15 to 31, 2021 with the theme "Supporting Scouting in Creating a Better World” as one of the main highlights of the BSP-CLR for 2021 Scouting Month Celebration of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

This is the first time that the Regional Scout Jamboree will be done virtually because of the pandemic and although the organizers and participants must go about these limitations, these meaningful engagements and series of virtual activities lined up for our young scouts are conducted to uphold the mission of preparing the youth to become agents of change in their communities.

The effects of the pandemic in the lives of our young Filipinos cannot simply be underestimated and put aside. As they continue to be confined inside their homes as a means of protecting them from acquiring the virus, a huge aspect of their lives has changed, and thus, the need to provide them with alternate avenues for development and interventions is highly essential to steer them away from damaging and stressful conditions. As they also continue to cope with the demands of distance learning modality, the importance of extra-curricular activities plays a significant role in providing them the necessary study-life balance.

Scouting has always remained the most valuable and indispensable means of engaging our youth towards personality development and nation-building. Through its various programs and activities, young boys and girls are allowed to develop important values such as responsibility, patriotism, physical and mental resilience, and accountability.

As scouting helps them acquire these values and help them nourish their skills and capabilities through experiential learning, we can mold them into responsible citizens in the community and society through proper upbringing and acquisition of values. Certainly, the positive impact of scouting in a young person’s life is advantageous and instrumental in their future.

As full-fledged boy scouts, senior scouts, and rover scouts, it is expected that they are prepared and trained to live by the principles of responsible citizenship. With the various programs and activities that they will participate in, it is hoped that they will acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitude in Scouting and ultimately be able to provide service to others.
