EIGHTEEN empowered women and nine active men handcrafted colorful flowers and beautiful dolls made from corn husk in Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte

George Vallente, agricultural program coordinator for Zamboanga del Norte, said those who handcrafted the flowers and dulls have completed a two-day Corn Husk Training conducted last week by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Corn Program.

Vallente said the DA provided during a training a start-up kit to the municipal agriculture office for the participants to use in their future crafting projects.

Sergio Runem Brillantes, Kalawit municipal planning and development coordinator, was amazed by the outputs of the participants.

Brillantes said the municipal government will support the training participants noting that handicraft is a good source of income.

He requested the women group to submit a proposal to his office.

“We, (MPDO) have funding allocations for livelihood that can be used for start-up fund for your proposals,” he added.

Present during the two-day training were municipal agriculturist Bidulita Aguilar, and DA corn program staff aside from Vallente. (SunStar Zamboanga)
