A PET snake of a resident in Mati, Davao Oriental escaped from its cage and was immediately reported to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office after it was caught inside the house of another resident on Sunday, October 17 at 3:49 a.m.

In a press release, the snake, owned by one Toto Rosal, was found inside the house of one Baby Camilo along Balintong in Barangay Central.

The city government said a team was immediately dispatched to the scene and safely recovered the python.

The python escaped its cage and slithered its way to the attic of Camilo’s residence.

The owner said he will bring his pet to their farm in Calapagan to avoid the same incident.

However, authorities advised Rosal to obtain a permit for him to be able to continue taking care of the python, otherwise, he will have to release it back to the wild.

Farms and pet traders are required to register and get a permit to own or sell exotic animals from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Meanwhile, wildlife trade is illegal as covered under Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Act; Republic Act 9072, or the Caves Act, Republic Act 7586, or the National Integrated Protected Areas System (Nipas) Act and its amended version, the Republic Act 11038 or the Expanded Nipas Act. (RGL)
