UC to help students, employees get vaxxed

TO help its employees and students get the free vaccination against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) by the government, the University of Cebu (UC) will provide buses for transport to vaccination centers as preparation for face-to-face (F2F) classes.

In a Facebook post Sunday, October 17, 2021, UC chancellor Candice Gotianuy said the school would support the vaccination of its more than 38,000 students who are at least 18 years old.

“We would like to reach herd immunity for Cebu. When this happens, we can have face-to-face classes for all levels. UC is doing its part by making this as easy as possible for you to get vaxxed. It’s been two years. Let’s really live in this new normal. Return to F2F,” she said.

UC is conducting a survey on its student body on vaccination. She said they had reached 51 percent of respondents and hoped to reach 100 percent this week.

For the registration, Gotianuy said the University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) will prepare the online forms that the Department of Health requires vaccinees to fill out.

UC also has 15 buses to help transport the students to the vaccination centers.

“This will start in the coming week. It is open to family and friends so long as they are registered,” she said.

Last month, the government allowed limited face-to-face classes for five more college degree programs that require hands-on experience—engineering and technology programs, hospitality/hotel and restaurant management, tourism/travel management, marine engineering and marine transportation.

Ched Chairman Prospero de Vera III said then that Ched was pushing for the vaccination of all faculty, staff and students in higher education institutions to ensure their safety.

Since January 2021, Ched has allowed medical and other allied health courses to conduct limited F2F classes. (JOB)
