"IF WE express our opposition, would they listen?"

This was asked Tuesday, October 19, by Dr. Ronel Sario, Philippine College of Physicians (PCP)-Negros Occidental Chapter president, as he disclosed that they are not keen on opposing the ease in travel restrictions in the province including its capital Bacolod City.

Both Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued Executive Orders (EOs) last week allowing the entrance of fully vaccinated individuals either by air, land or sea without the need to present a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) showing them negative of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

With the travel restrictions eased, Sario said they are reiterating their appeal to those who have not been inoculated to have their vaccines as soon as possible considering that at least 10 individuals mostly unvaccinated die every day in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.

He said despite the apparent decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases in the city and province, the people should not be complacent.

PCP-Negros Occidental Chapter, in a statement earlier, emphasized that the Delta variant of Covid-19 is more transmissible, thus observance of basic health protocols is a must.

Sario said many of their members are already exhausted and are getting sick.

The doctor added that the Task Force Disiplina of the Bacolod City Government should be proactive in ensuring that the health protocols are followed.

"But, do you see them (Task Force Disiplina) on the streets?" he asked.
