Majority of Mandaue teachers fully vaccinated

MOST of the teachers in Mandaue City are now fully vaccinated, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue Division.

Based on its record, out of 2,421 total teaching and non-teaching personnel registered with the DepEd Mandaue vaccination tracker, it has vaccinated 1,941 personnel or 80.4 percent.

In an interview, Edgar Espina, the information officer of DepEd Mandaue, said 80 percent of their teaching staff and 80 percent of their non-teaching have been vaccinated.

Despite this achievement, Espina said they are still encouraging those who have yet to get vaccinated to have their jabs now.

He said they constantly make an advocacy campaign such as webinars on the advantages of getting vaccinated to convince those who haven’t done it yet.

He also said they have a school-to-school forum to address vaccination hesitancy, especially among the unvaccinated teachers.

Espina said these unvaccinated personnel refused to get vaccinated due to some personal reasons and vaccine preference.

If they do decide to get vaccinated, Espina said the Mandaue City government will prioritize them and permit walk-ins in vaccination sites.

Meanwhile, Espina shared that Mandaue City schools were not recommended to have face-to-face classes even in the mountain barangays.

This is due to the Covid-19 cases in Mandaue City although Espina said the numbers are decreasing.

On Oct. 18, 2021, the Department of Health Central Visayas reported that Mandaue City had 201 active Covid-19 cases. (KFD)
