TECHNICAL issues with the Department of Health’s (DOH) epidemiological surveillance system led to the agency reporting low number of new recoveries and deaths Wednesday, October 20.
The DOH only tallied 228 new Covid-19 recoveries and five new deaths due to technical issues with CovidKaya.
“Additional recoveries and deaths shall be reflected in the case bulletin in the following days. Rest assured that the DICT (Department of Information and Communications) is currently addressing these issues,” it said in its Wednesday case bulletin.
There are now a total of 2,627,331 recoveries (96.1 percent) and 40,977 deaths (1.50 percent) in the Philippines.
The DOH, however, logged 3,656 additional infections, although this is the lowest number of cases recorded in a single day since July 14.
The DOH reported 3,806 cases on July 14.
The health department said the new cases logged Wednesday pushed the country’s total caseload to 2,735,369.
It also brought the active cases to 67,061 or 2.5 percent of the total confirmed cases.
Of the active cases, 77.9 percent were considered mild, 6.8 percent were asymptomatic, 8.69 percent were moderate, 4.6 percent were severe and two percent were critical.
The health department said two laboratories were not able to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on October 18. These laboratories contributed more or less 0.5 percent of the samples tested and 1.2 percent of the individuals who tested positive for the virus.
The DOH reminded the public to continue to strictly observe the minimum health standards despite the low number of new cases reported, saying it is still not time to be complacent. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
