THE lone airport on the island province of Camiguin will now be able to triple the number of passengers it receives.

And just in time as the island, known for its beaches and springs, is set to welcome tourists on Oct. 25, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

In a Facebook announcement Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, the DOTr said the Camiguin Airport had been upgraded, with its Passenger Terminal Building expanded to now serve at least 200 passengers from the previous 66 passengers.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Jim Sydiongco will lead the inauguration of the improved airport Friday, Oct. 22.

Tugade will also inaugurate the airport’s administration building, fire station building, and the completed runway slope.

The airport upgrade is expected not only to boost tourism and investment in the province but also to improve connectivity in northern Mindanao. (CTL, PR)
