Smartmatic gets electronic transmission deal

SMARTMATIC-TIM Corporation is set to provide the Commission on Elections (Comelec) the Secure Electronic Transmission Services (Sets) for the forthcoming May 2022 polls.

This came after the multinational company won the public bidding for the P1.056-billion project conducted by the Comelec.

"The undersigned hereby awards to Smartmatic-TIM Corporation the contract for the procurement of Secure Electronic Transmission Services (SETS) for 2022 NLE Election Results-2nd Bidding," said the Comelec's Notice of Award signed by Chairman Sheriff Abas.

Smartmatic tendered a winning bid of P1,053,151,000 for the project covering electronic transmission, including management, data center requirements, and other related services to be used in the May 2022 polls.

Electronic transmission refers to the act of electronically transmitting election results from the vote counting machines in polling precincts to the consolidation and canvassing system and the main servers using transmission media and networks.

In a related development, the Comelec has once again tapped the Pro V&V Inc. to conduct the automated election system (AES) international certification services for the next elections.

This was after the Alabama, United States-based company bested two other firms invited for the limited source bidding for the P55-million project.

"The undersigned hereby awards to Pro V & V, Inc., the contract for the procurement of AES Certification Services by an international certification entity for the 2022 National and Local Elections," said the Comelec in its Notice of Award signed by Abas.

Pro V & V, Inc. tendered a bid amount of P54,566,917.944 for the project, which it also handled in the May 2019 elections.

Under the Poll Automation Law, the AES must be reviewed and certified by an established international certification entity not later than three months before Election Day. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
