Consolacion mayor asks residents to follow cemetery visit sked

TO AVOID crowding in cemeteries in the northern Cebu town of Consolacion, Mayor Joannes Alegado has urged his constituents to follow their visiting schedule per barangay from Oct. 25 until Nov. 10.

Alegado also emphasized that they will temporarily close the cemeteries and columbaria on Oct. 30 until Nov. 4. The cemeteries in Consolacion are located in Barangays Tayud, Nangka, Pulpogan and Poblacion Oriental (Riverside).

The visiting schedule of each barangay is as follows: Tayud (Oct. 25); Casili and Panas (Oct. 26); Pulpogan and Panoypoy (Oct. 27); Nangka and Tilhaong (Oct. 28); Jugan and Sacsac (Oct. 29); Lamac and Polog (Nov. 5); Tugbongan and Garing (Nov. 6); Pitogo and Tolotolo (Nov. 7); Cansaga and Cabangahan (Nov. 8); Poblacion Occidental and Poblacion Oriental (Nov. 9); Lanipga and Danglag (Nov. 10).

Various local government units have issued protocols to limit the crowd in cemeteries during All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2) as mass gathering is a superspreader of Covid-19.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases passed a resolution closing all cemeteries nationwide from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2. This decision by the national body is seen as a belated move as several local government units have already formulated policies for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Cemetery closure of Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City starts on Oct. 31 and ends on Nov. 2. In Cebu City, a directive issued by Acting Mayor Michael Rama keeps cemeteries and columbaria open for one-hour visits at 50 percent capacity, with only fully vaccinated persons allowed entry on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2. Outside these dates from Oct. 18 to Nov. 5 are scheduled for those 18 to 65 -year-old only. (KFD)
