The signing of affirmation of support to the peace agreement was held in a simple ceremony Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the 102nd Infantry Brigade headquarters in Sanito village, Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay.

The signatories were the following: Major Generl Alfredo Rosario, Jr., commander of Western Mindanao Command; Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas, commander of 102nd Infantry Brigade; Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay Police director; Zamboanga Sibugay 1st District Representative Wilter Palma, II; Zamboanga Sibugay 2nd District Representative Dulce Ann Hofer; Suaib Edris, MILF’s 113th base commander; and other military, police, and MILF officials.

They vowed to continuously generate goodwill and trust in the peace agreement between the Government of the Philippines and the MILF.

They also pledged to actively promote an inclusive peaceful environment conducive to sustainable development in the region.

On October 12, a Joint Peace and Security Team (JPST) was activated and deployed in the municipality of Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province.

The team is composed of 30 members, of whom seven are Army troops, eight are police personnel, and 15 are members of the MILF.

JPSTs have been tasked to support the maintenance of peace and order and stability in areas that will undergo the decommissioning process under the normalization track of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), which aims to help MILF combatants make the transition to peaceful civilian life, while their communities will be transformed into peaceful, progressive and resilient communities.

“On behalf of the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resources of the Western Mindanao Command, I give my full support to this endeavor. This is a great stride towards the attainment of our coveted peace not only in the Bangsamoro but the entire Mindanao region,” Rosario said in his message.

Fun shoot and fellowship highlighted the activity. It was participated by the representatives from the security sector and the MILF key leaders in Zamboanga Peninsula. (SunStar Zamboanga)
