Remember “Oliver’s” repartee, “Food! Glorious Food?” Good food is essential for a healthy life.

An ongoing project of Zonta Club of Cebu 1 is a cookbook entitled “Tasty Treasures.” A novel project, this cookbook is the club’s response to develop a well-balanced food and nutrition program, with family value as its core. It intersperses womanhood and home, and that is empowerment as well.

This endeavor is an integrated scheme to engage the family and the community to cook nutritious food at home, in the barangay, with the women, their husbands and children.

The menus are varied from traditional food treasures to contemporary courses which are cooked not only at home, or in restaurants, but even in the carinderia.

The cookbook is a collated food array of “Zontians and their Friends.” It supports related thrusts on women empowerment, family solidarity, equality of men and women, as they plan, cook and share nutritious food, a balance of green vegetables, meat, beef and fish. The Budlaan women will be the active pacesetters in this project.

The academe, which offers home economics in high school and food and nutrition in college, as well as the food and beverage departments of hotel and restaurants, serve as active partners. The Z Clubs and Golden Z will be tapped to help, and organize cooking contests in school using the cookbook.

There is a plan to coordinate virtual cooking demonstrations by selected partners of the project. Thus, the cookbook will have a multiplier effect. Good food and nutrition are the proactive ways to fight communicable diseases and the pandemic.

Presently, the project is getting “good vibes,” like some wives have already submitted their recipes. How interesting to see husbands, wives and children cooking together!

Well, “the family that cooks together, stays together!”
