DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd)-Western Visayas Director Dr. Ramir Uytico said Monday, October 25, that they will install the officers of the newly created Victorias City Schools Division Tuesday, October 26.
Uytico, in an interview with DYRL's Mercado Publiko, said Dr. Portia Mallorca and Mark Anthony Tan, will be installed as superintendent and acting assistant superintendent, respectively.
Uytico will lead the installation rites together with Superintendent Ma. Luz Delos Reyes, school division superintendent (SDS) of Iloilo City and president of all superintendents in Western Visayas.
Mallorca was SDS of Kabankalan City prior to her new post while Tan is from Escalante City.
In a memorandum dated September 16, 2021, Education Secretary Leonor Briones ordered the establishment of the Schools Division of Victorias City to separate from its mother Schools Division, the Schools Division of Negros Occidental.
The new schools division has met the DepEd-DHM Organization and Staffing Standards Requirements of at least 750 public elementary and secondary schools teachers, including head teachers and principals.
Uytico said the creation of the new division was realized through the effort of Third District Representative Jose Francisco Benitez and Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca.
The division's budget inclusion for the year 2022 was approved through legislation, Uytico added.
Benitez, for his part, said a separate schools division for Victorias City means closer supervision of schools and will provide more focus and support to ensure delivery of quality education and promote the welfare of students and teachers in Victorias.
