THE Department of Health (DOH) reported Wednesday (October 27) 3,218 new coronavirus infections, the lowest daily tally recorded since May 23, 2021 when the country logged 3,083.

In its 4 p.m. Wednesday bulletin, the DOH said the new cases brought the country’s total confirmed infections to 2,768,849.

The country’s positivity rate went down to 7.6 from the 8.5 percent that was reported Tuesday, October 26.

The health department also reported 6,660 additional recoveries that pushed the total number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19 to 2,676,349 or 96.7 percent of the total cases.

The death toll rose to 42,348 with 271 new mortalities. This means that 1.53 percent of all cases have succumbed to the disease.

Less the deaths and recoveries, the country now has 50,152 (1.8 percent) active cases.

Majority or 73.4 percent of the cases have mild symptoms, 6.8 percent were asymptomatic, 11.02 percent were moderate, 6.2 percent were severe and 2.6 percent were critical.

The DOH said only one laboratory failed to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on October 25.

It reminded the public anew to not be complacent with the decrease in Covid-19 cases in the Philippines, saying the continued observances of minimum health protocols is very important to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The DOH also appealed to those who have not received their Covid-19 vaccine yet to get themselves vaccinated to help the government achieve herd immunity by the end of 2021. (Laureen Mondoñedo-Ynot/SunStar Philippines)
