33 agrarian beneficiaries installed in Ormoc

AT LEAST 33 agrarian beneficiaries were installed in Ormoc City, following the national government’s Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).

Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)-Eastern Visayas Director Robert Anthony Yu lauded the support of the police, Philippine Army’s 802nd Infantry Brigade, and the local government for the “peaceful” installation of the beneficiaries.

The 33 agrarian beneficiaries include four widows who have waited for their land for many years.

“I am now very happy... This could have helped us long time ago,” said Rosario Torlao, one of the widows.

Torlao said she could not believe her family now owns an almost three-hectare lot, which used to be a sugar land.

In 1997, Rosario’s husband, Vicente, became a recipient of a certificate of land ownership award covering a 2.9-hectare lot in Barangay Patag, according to the DAR regional office.

However, Rosario’s husband failed to take full possession of the said land due to several agrarian issues and disputes until he died in 2013.

The three other widows were Teresita Caliwan, 71; Asuncion Agcang, 78; and Trinidad Solayao, 77.

A total of 58 agrarian reform beneficiaries have already been installed since September, DAR-Eastern Visayas said in a statement. (SunStar Philippines)
