RESIDENTS of Central and Northern Luzon will soon experience world-class internet, as Globe continues to build and upgrade mobile sites in the area.

In its latest statement, the company noted that it has already outperformed its rollout of new mobile site builds in North and Central Luzon from last year and has already surpassed its 2020 record.

As of November 2, Globe said it has already added 1,100 new cell sites and upgraded 13,300 mobile sites across the country, most of which are in Northern and Central Luzon region particularly in Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Isabela.

“It is a record-breaking year for all of us despite the pandemic and even with these record builds, we are not yet stopping,” said Globe Director and Program Lead for Wireless New Site Build Eula Ulanday.

Aside from this, Globe has also increased its mobile site upgrades in the area by 2.5 times compared to last year.

The upgrades are part of the P76-billion in capital expenditures allocated for this year alone to enhance its network.

“We strive for a world-class internet in Northern and Central Luzon. We want to give a better customer experience, especially in times like these when connectivity is critical for family and work,” Ulanday added.

Meanwhile, Globe Vice President for Program Delivery Levi Lopez said the company continues to upgrade its existing sites to serve the growing needs of its customers.

“Using a highway as an analogy, we are adding more lanes to existing ones

so more customers can pass through at better speeds and more capacity. Our upgrades include expanding hardware with a larger capacity so the system can accommodate the growing data usage of customers and provide better service within the area it serves,” said Lopez.

Lopez also explained that local electrical cooperatives have a vital role in upgrading the network facilities.

Globe is able to increase its system capacity when these cooperatives upgrade the power transformers of cell sites, resulting in better connectivity for customers.

“Powering up cell sites is a crucial part of activating new sites and mobile upgrades. If we can get more coops to support us by fast-tracking their power upgrades, we can increase the capacity of our systems faster, allowing more customers to experience significant improvements in their call, SMS, and data services,” he said.

More than just augmenting capacity, Globe has also widened its reach for Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks in the region by 40 percent as of the last quarter. More customers can now access LTE, as evidenced by the increasing data traffic for the same period.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), particularly UN SDG No. 9, highlighting the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
