SIPALAY City in Negros Occidental and some parts of Western Visayas were jolted by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head Zeaphard Caelian said the earthquake, with the epicenter located 18 kilometers northeast off Sipalay City, was tectonic in origin.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 3 in Iloilo City and Bago City, Intensity 2 in La Carlota City, and Instrumental Intensity 5 in Sipalay City.

Caelian said aftershocks or damage are unlikely.

He also assured that there is nothing to be alarmed with the tremor, adding that it is only part of the normal movement of the Negros Trench, which is located along the localities of Sipalay and Hinoba-an.

The area had been experiencing swarms of small earthquakes with the strongest recorded at magnitude 4.6.

Reiterating that the series of tremors are natural, Caelian, though, warned that such small tremors can also trigger landslides in rain soaked mountainous areas.
