THE Philippines continued to log fewer cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), with 1,591 additional infections reported on Wednesday, November 3, the lowest since February 24.

The new infections brought the total tally in the country to 2,793,898 Covid-19 cases as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, said the Department of Health (DOH).

The active cases went down to 38,014 or 1.4 percent from Tuesday’s (November 2) 40,786.

The DOH also reported 4,294 additional recoveries that brought to 2,712,298 the total number of patients who have recovered from the disease. This means that 97.1 percent of those who contracted the virus were able to recover.

The death toll, however, increased to 43,586 with 186 additional mortalities, said the health department. This is 1.56 percent of all the confirmed cases in the country.

The Philippines now has a positivity rate of 5.6 percent.

The DOH said majority or 69.4 percent of the cases have experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19, while 13.87 percent were moderate, 5.2 percent were asymptomatic, 8.1 percent were severe and 3.4 percent were critical.

It added that the numbers logged Wednesday, November 3, did not include reports from seven laboratories, which failed to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on November 1.

These seven laboratories contributed an average of 1.3 percent of all samples tested and three percent of all positive results in the past 14 days.

The DOH said despite the decline in the number of new cases, it is still important to observe and practice the minimum health standards to prevent transmission of the coronavirus.

“Matitiyak natin ang mababang kaso kung patuloy nating susundin ang minimum public health standards at mabakunahan na ang bawat Pilipino,” said the DOH in its case bulletin. (SunStar Philippines)
