OVER 31,000 individuals across the country have been affected by the imposition of granular lockdown, which aims to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

During the Talk to the People Address of President Rodrigo Duterte that was aired Wednesday morning, November 3, Año said a total of 31,178 people were currently locked up in their homes due to several Covid-19 cases in their areas.

He said there were a total of 7,232 households in 283 barangays nationwide that are under granular lockdown except in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Eastern Visayas, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

“Makikita po natin na very effective ang ating ginagawa na granular lockdown alongside sa ating bagong alert level system. Ito na rin po ay dala dahil sa epektibo talaga ang ating pagbabakuna,” Año said.

The National Government has shifted into imposing alert level systems and granular lockdown in various parts of the country, instead of the region or province-wide lockdowns to jumpstart the recovery of the economy badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Granular lockdown has been defined as micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

Families under granular lockdown will receive food packs from their respective LGUs.

The country has so far recorded a total of 2,792,656 Covid-19 cases with 43,404 deaths and 2,708,466 recoveries.

As of November 2, the Department of Health said there were a total of 40,786 active Covid-19 cases in the country.

As of November 1, a total of 27,360,873 individuals were fully vaccinated, while 31,955,891 received first dose. (SunStar Philippines)
