Elderly man drowns in Bagatayam Falls in Sogod, Cebu

AN ELDERLY man drowned in the waters of Bagatayam Falls in Sogod town, northern Cebu on Friday afternoon, November 5, 2021.

The fatality was identified as Terio Sultones, who was in 60s.

Before he drowned, Sultones was seen by his neighbors cleaning his copras in the falls around 12 p.m. While washing the copras, he slipped and fell into the water, according to report of the Sogod Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) quoted by Mayor Richard Streegan on his Facebook page.

Residents living near Bagatayam Falls reported the incident to authorities.

A search was conducted by the personnel from the DRRMOs of Sogod and Catmon, police stations of Sogod and Catmon, the Bureau of Fire Protection of Sogod, the Philippine Coast Guard-Tabogon and Kuya Jom's Divers Team.

Some Bagatayam residents and fishermen also helped in the search.

Sultones was found at 2:30 p.m. He had no pulse when he was rushed to Sogod District Hospital, where his death was officially announced.

Mayor Streegan and his wife Vice Mayor Lisa Marie "Monyeen" Durano-Streegan promised to give financial assistance to Sultones' family.
