THE City Government of Tacloban launched on Friday, November 5, 2021, its first Covid-19 vaccination efforts for minors aged 12 to 17 at the city’s Convention Center.

At least 1,172 individuals were targeted for the Pfizer vaccine during the inoculation activity which was attended by Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez.

“This estimation is for the rest of the pediatric population without comorbidity. Moreover, as Tacloban City is expected to reach herd immunity this month, Taclobanons 18 years old and above are also being accommodated at said vaccination site through a walk-in policy,” the city government said.

The vaccination for the pediatric population with comorbidities was also held at the Tacloban City Hospital “for a better and more conducive inoculation.”

The regional health department said that children with comorbidities or existing medical conditions should be prioritized in every rollout, citing the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Office guidelines.

“Parents should also be present to accompany their children to the vaccination site with the necessary requirements presented,” the DOH in the region said.

Aside from the Tacloban City Hospital, the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination rollout was also simultaneously launched at the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) in Tacloban and Governor Benjamin T. Romualdez General Hospital and Schistosomiasis Center in Palo, Leyte.

There was an allocation of 1,090 doses for the said hospitals, according to the regional health department.

The vaccination team leaders for the rollout were Dr. January Ducducan for EVMC, Dr. Joedina Gumagay for Tacloban City Hospital, and Dr. Lyn Verona for the Schistosomiasis Center.

Other DOH officials were also present during the activity “to ensure the smooth process flow and the proper handling of the vials.”

A Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 Vaccination Rollout was also conducted for adult and pediatric populations, specifically children without comorbidities.

The rollout was headed by Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, city health officer of Tacloban, and Dr. Mary Grace Tan Uy, vice president of the Philippine Pediatric Society Eastern Visayas Chapter.

As of Friday, the region’s total number of Covid-19 cases was at 50,822 with total recoveries at 49,984 (98.35 percent), total deaths at 584 (1.15 percent), and total active cases at 254 (0.50 percent). (SunStar Philippines)
