Negrense artist Mikael Nicholas "Miko," Zayco launched his second solo art exhibit entitled "Through the Prism," at Casa Gamboa in Silay City, Negros Occidental Sunday, November 7.

The young artist unleashes his art, pivoting on the flow of his emotions that direct his artwork's outcome.

The focus is not on the result, but he moves with the flow, he said. He prepares himself for the surprise that will unfold in the course of his creation.

“Once the paint touches the canvas, I get lost and allow the beauty of art to unravel in front of me and most of the time I get surprised by the artwork in front of me. As light takes to the prism," he said.

"Through the Prism" explores new avenues for the artist whose favorite medium is acrylic and also mixed with other mediums.

Miko hails from Kabankalan on his father's side and Bacolod on his mother's side

He is the son of mosaic artist Lisa de Leon Zayco.

He said his mother is his motivator whom she said has been behind him since day 1.

His first art solo exhibit, "Resurgence," was held in May 2021.

He joined group exhibits in May 2018, "Beyond Bounds," and “By Gone, “in June 2019.

Miko recalled that he started painting "after a lot of years and a lot of hesitation."

With no background in art, he would spend hours and hours studying different techniques and would experiment.

He has joined several art workshops, the latest of which was Print Making with Marc Bugangon.

"Doing art has made me more centred. It is where I commune with God and where I find my peace. I offer the work of my hands and the inspiration I get from my creator, the Almighty Father!".

In "Through the Prism," the artist lays bare the musings of life as he has been invited to witness and retells these on canvass, with hands and brushes resigned to fate, left to the chances of living through a prism.

The art exhibit opens at 4 pm on November 7 at Casa A. Gamboa in Silay City.*
