ABOUT P110 million financial assistance under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) will be distributed to Negros Occidental and Bacolod City in 2022.

This was assured Tuesday, November 9, by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III, who led the distribution of P15.3 million worth of Tupad assistance and other livelihood projects at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City.

"This is to help workers in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City who were displaced due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic," he said.

Bello said of the P110 million, P20 million will be given to the Provincial Government through Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, another P20 million through Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, and P10 million each for the six congressional districts of the province, including the Lone District of Bacolod.

The local government units (LGUs) will identify the beneficiaries who are affected by pandemic, he added.

Meanwhile, the labor department's top official said his decision to run for senator would be known at 12 noon of November 14, which is the deadline for the substitution of candidates for the May 2022 elections.

Bello said it will depend on whether Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will seek a national post.

"If she will run for president then I will also run for Senator under her ticket," he said.
