THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas has pledged support to Lieutenant General Dionardo Bernardo Carlos, who has been named as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Knowing his dedication to public service, his new post gives hope to this PRO, especially in terms of developmental projects for the benefit of the people of Eastern Visayas,” said Brigadier General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot, police regional director.

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Carlos to be the successor of PNP Chief General Guillermo Eleazar, who will retire on November 13, 2021.

Carlos, the current chief of the directorial staff, will be the 27th PNP chief.

An alumnus of “Maringal Class 1988” of Philippine Military Academy, Carlos won the hearts of the Waraynons with his famous tagline “alagangcarlos” during his stint as Eastern Visayas police regional director from August 10, 2018 to October 25, 2019.

“His magnanimous leadership focused on the mantra: Distinct, Discipline, and Decorum. Within a year of his great leadership and dedication, PRO-Eastern Visayas won significant accomplishments that were heard all over the country,” the police regional command said.

“Knowing his dedication to public service, his new post gives hope to this PRO especially in terms of developmental projects for the benefit of the people of Eastern Visayas,” it added.

Carlos was previously assigned as director for Integrated Police Operations in Visayas, director for Police Community Relations, director for Information and Communication Technology Management, director of the Highway Patrol Group, director of the Aviation Security Group, and provincial director of Police Provincial Offices in Negros Oriental and Quezon province.

He also served as chief of the PNP Public Information Office, PNP spokesperson at the national headquarters, and chief regional PIO of the National Capital Region Police Office.

He also performed staff function in the Center for Police Strategy Management and Office of the Chief PNP.

In a statement, the PNP identified Carlos as “highly trained in special police operations particularly in crisis management and response, urban counter-revolutionary warfare, counter-hijacking, explosive ordnance disposal, VIP security, and anti-terrorist operations.”

The incoming PNP chief finished two Master’s degrees in Management from the Asian Institute of Management and the Philippine Christian University.

His elder brother is Philippine Navy’s Rear Admiral Alberto Carlos.

He was born in Lucena City, Quezon to Osmundo de Ocampo Carlos of Tayabas, Quezon, a marine biologist, and to Erlinda Sabarre Bernardo of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, a registered nurse.

Carlos has two children, ages 24 and 18. (SunStar Philippines)
