DESPITE calls from her supporters to run for presidency in the 2022 national elections, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for vice president as substitute for Lakas-CMD’s Lyle Uy.

Lawyer Reynold Munsayac filed the COC in behalf of Duterte-Carpio on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Duterte-Carpio, in a statement on Friday, November 12, 2021, said she is currently in Davao City.

“This is to confirm that Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, through her representative, has filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president under Lakas-CMD. Mayor Sara will be releasing an official statement shortly,” Christina Frasco, Duterte-Carpio's spokesperson and Liloan City, Cebu mayor, said in a text message to SunStar Davao.

Duterte-Carpio resigned from Hukbong ng Pagbabago (HNP) on November 11, 2021. On the same day, she took an oath to join Lakas-CMD.

Earlier this week, Duterte-Carpio withdrew her COC for city mayor.

Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte will substitute her and run for city mayor.

City Councilor Melchor Quitain, Jr. will substitute Duterte and run for vice mayor.
