PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will be running against his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in the 2022 elections, as he is set to file his candidacy for vice president on Monday, November 15.

This was confirmed by Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, who told the media at the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) office Saturday, November 13, that Duterte will return to Comelec on November 15 to file his candidacy.

November 15 is the last day for aspirants to apply as substitute candidate for the 2022 elections.

“On Monday, babalik si Presidente dito sa Comelec para mag-file for vice president. Abangan natin ang sunod na kabanata,” Andanar said Saturday.

Andanar’s confirmation came after Duterte accompanied Senator Christopher “Bong” Go to the Comelec office in Manila on Saturday to withdraw the latter’s bid for vice president.

Go withdrew his vice presidential bid and filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president. He is running for president under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan.

Go’s withdrawal from the vice presidential race came after Duterte’s daughter, Duterte-Carpio, filed her COC as vice president under the Lakas-CMD. She substituted Lakas’s Lyle Uy.

Duterte-Carpio is the vice presidential candidate endorsed by the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the party of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Meanwhile, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa withdrew his candidacy for president. (SunStar Philippines)
