186 road accidents monthly reported in Talisay

AN AVERAGE of 186 road accidents each month have occurred in Talisay City from January to September this year.

The City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA) recorded a total of 1,703 road accidents in the first nine months of this year, said CT-TODA chief Jonathan “Joy” Tumulak.

Tumulak said the most number of road accidents this year occurred in August wherein CT-TODA recorded 210.

This was followed by June and September which only recorded 107.

Tumulak said they recorded around 261 accidents involving taxis against motorcycles while they also recorded 260 accidents involving private vehicles.

Tumulak said most of the accidents occur on N. Bacalso Avenue and Cebu South Coastal Road.

The most common cause of accidents is “miscalculation” by motorists.

Tumulak said to further prevent accidents, he continues to remind motorists to follow traffic rules all the time.

Aside from reminding motorists, Tumulak also ordered his personnel to strictly implement rules along the road.

He particularly ordered his personnel to watch out for leisure cyclists who disobey traffic rules as he found out that they are often one of the causes behind some accidents in the city.

He also ordered strict enforcement against those violating the “No Right Turn on Red Signal” signage after noticing that some accidents often occur because some motorists would often make right turns even during ongoing traffic. (REV, JKV)
