THE local government of Dauis, Bohol has entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) in Region 7 to set up an official overseas Filipino worker (OFW) help desk in the municipality.

Owwa 7 Director Martel Dasayon and Dauis Mayor Marietta Sumaylo inked the MOA with the intention of bringing Owwa’s programs and services closer to the OFWs in Dauis.

The beneficiaries from the municipality also received their educational assistance under the ODSP or the OFW Dependents Scholarship Program and Educational Assistance through Scholarship in Emergencies (Project Ease).

The agency also recently set up OFW help desks in Cebu Province—Daanbantayan, Carcar City, Consolacion, Cordova and Barili. The Owwa 7 officials have also discussed the establishment of help desks in Santa Fe town and Bogo City.

The Owwa 7 said its move would enable its services to be within reach of OFWs and their families as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to challenge OFWs.

Programs and services of the agency include livelihood grants and scholarship programs.

The Department of Labor and Employment said the government had repatriated more than half a million OFWs since the pandemic started in 2020.
