THE Municipal Government of Murcia has thanked Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri for allocating funds for the construction of two completed covered courts in the town.

The senator was the guest of honor during the blessing and inauguration of the multi-purpose covered courts at the town’s Barangays Lopez Jaena and Zone 2 near the Murcia Tinabuay Public Market on Friday, November 12.

Mayor Gerry Rojas expressed his gratitude to the Senate majority leader for providing the projects, and for fighting for the sugar industry in Congress.

Rojas also urged residents to support the reelection bid of Zubiri.

“He is a true-blue Negrense who looks after our welfare, and he also fights tirelessly to protect the sugar industry, which is the backbone of our economy here in Negros,” he added.

Councilor Hernan Alintana, president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Murcia and the Punong Barangay of Lopez Jaena, informed the senator that the covered court has served as an evacuation site for residents of nearby barangays when Kanlaon Volcano had an activities recently.

Alintana said with the spacious covered court, local farmers who sell their products in this “bagsakan” as well as residents who buy their produce are protected from the heat of the sun and from the rains.

“Also, the products sold by our farmers remain fresh because the fruits, vegetables and other crops are not exposed to the sun and rain,” Zone 2 Punong Barangay Alona Gomez said.

Zubiri lauded the local government as the covered courts have proven useful to Murciahanons in many ways aside from serving as venue for official programs and functions.

The senator also cited the “excellent quality” of construction of these covered courts.

“I am very happy that the people of Murcia have benefited much from these projects. Under the supervision of Mayor Gerry Rojas, the construction of these structures shows that there was no corruption in the implementation, and that the budget was truly spent for what it was intended,” he added.

The Negrense senator has assured the local government of his continued support.

He pledged a bigger allocation of P5 million worth of infrastructure projects in the town in 2022, as well as additional funds for Murcia’s Covid-related poverty alleviation programs. (PR)
