City offers P2M reward for info on killers of councilor, caretaker

THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro will be giving out P2-million reward money to anyone who could provide information that would help identify, arrest and prosecute in court those responsible for the killings of a councilor of Barangay Carmen and his caretaker.

In a statement, Mayor Oscar Moreno condemned the killing of Barangay Carmen Councilor Roland Sherwin "Tawe" Uy and Samuel Pabalan, the caretaker of the family's sand and gravel business.

Uy is the son of Cagayan de Oro First District Representative Rolando Uy and brother of Vice Mayor Rainier Joaquin Uy.

Uy and Pabalan were shot dead by unidentified assailants around 1 p.m. of November 11 in a quarry area in Barangay Pagatpat where Uy has a sand and gravel business.

According to Rubie Alayuay, Uy's driver, he was inside the comfort room at the office at the quarry when he heard the unidentified assailant, who was posing as a prospective customer, asking for the price of gravel delivery.

Alayuay said he heard multiple gunshots after.

"The brutal, cruel, senseless and utterly barbaric killings on November 11, 2021 of Kagawad Roland Sherwin 'Tawe' Uy and his caretaker, Samuel Pabalan, must be condemned in the strongest possible terms," Moreno said.

"I ask all decent and peace-loving Kagay-anons to join me in urging the speedy and complete solution of those killings," he added.

Moreno said that upon hearing about the killings of Uy and Pabalan, he immediately went to the site in Barangay Pagatpat to know more about the incident.

"There was no security guard in the area, clearly indicating that Kagawad Tawe was absolutely unaware and even unsuspecting of the cruelty that would befall him," the mayor said.

"The perpetrators -- together with the brains, must be held to account for these dastardly acts," Moreno said.

Investigation on the case is ongoing.
