SUBSTITUTIONS and withdrawal of certificates of candidacy (COCs) extend even in the provinces, with Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy as the latest candidate to withdraw his bid for the 2022 elections.
In a Facebook post from Davao de Oro Information Division's Serbisyo Oro Mismo, Uy withdrew his candidacy for reelection as governor and was replaced by his father, Senior Board Member Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy, more known as Papa Gov, on Monday, November 15, at Davao de Oro Commission on Elections (Comelec) office.
The elder Uy, who is the lead convenor of the “Run Sara Run” movement, was the governor of the province from 2007 to 2016. His son, Jayvee, succeeded him and became one of the youngest governors in the Philippines, but the first youngest governor in Mindanao.
Around 4:30 p.m., Governor Uy filed his COC at the same office for vice governor accompanied by his wife, Provincial Women Development Council (PWDC) chairperson Sholai Lim.
It can be recalled that Senior Board Member Uy expressed his disdain against the province’s Second District Representative, Ruwell Peter Gonzaga, for not honoring their party’s “covenant” to “unite the province.”
In GMA’s Imbestigador Mindanao interview posted on its Facebook page on November 5, 2021, the elder Uy observed that Gonzaga created a political kingdom of his own and grew a dislike for all the mayors who are loyal to him, adding that Gonzaga was even looking for candidates to rival their lineup.
The older Uy even reiterated that he was the one who helped Gonzaga win in his current position.
Senior Board Member Uy will be rivalled by former Panabo City Regional Trial Court Judge Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga, the congressman’s wife, while the Cong. Gonzaga will seek reelection for the same post in 2022 elections under Reporma partylist.
Meanwhile, Senior Board Member Uy and Governor Uy are under Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
