WITH vibrant enthusiasm, the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 will launch its first virtual walk from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12, 2021. This activity, called the “Walk for Women,” has compelled its members to think out of the box, considering the rabid challenges brought about by the raging Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, the club’s advocacies are equality, dignity and awareness to the plight of women and girls worldwide. With these in mind, even the five distances are designed to correspond to a specific cause:
3km: Say no to teenage pregnancy
5km: End child marriage
10km: Break the chain of inequality and abuse
15km: Stand up against the trafficking of women and children
21km: Say no to violence against women
Something truly novel about this walk is that you can walk anywhere any time—at the beach, on a treadmill, at a park, or even at home. You can also stagger your walk, but all within a single day, and not several days.
The project has created some excitement, as observed by members of the Ways and Means Committee. Ask Zontians Nonie and Myrna, who were assigned to raise funds, and they did! Shh! The amount is a secret!
