IN THE bid to enhance agricultural and fishery productivity, ensure food security and provide livelihood opportunities, the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has distributed P11 million worth of agricultural and fishery inputs to farmers from the different cities and municipalities of the province.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the ceremonial turnover held at the Negros First Organic Technology Center (NFOTEC) at Barangay Tabunan in Bago City on Tuesday, November 16.

The farmers received sugar-rice intercropping projects including rice seeds, fertilizer, ameliorants and inoculants, power sprayer, pump and engine, and multi-cultivator for high value commercial crops.

They also received rescue equipment for fisheries use, organic production support program that included vegetable seeds, farm tools, organic fertilizer, planting materials, and farm tourism program.

Lacson said that aiding the farmers and fisherfolk with the opportunity and technology is a step towards the realization of the collective goal to empower and enhance one of the most important sectors of the province.

“If local products are boosted through technology, the lives of the farmers and their family will also improve,” he said, assuring the farmers of the provincial government’s support, for them to reach their utmost potential and improve their livelihood.

The NFOTEC is managed by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.

During the turnover, Lacson and other officials also checked the ongoing projects of the center, bamboo nursery, tissue culture laboratory, vermi composting facility, and rice processing complex at the site.

Also present in the activity were Officer-In-Charge Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola, Board Members Jeffrey Tubola, Ryan Gamboa and Jose Benito Alonso, National Food Authority-Negros Occidental Acting Branch Manager Epifanio Cosca, Provincial Tourism Officer Cheryl Decena, Security Division Head Renelo Lastierre, Tabunan Barangay Captain Henry Abdon, and some city and municipal agriculturists.
