VICE presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio officially assumed as Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrat (Lakas-CMD) chairperson on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

Duterte-Carpio was officially declared as the party's chairperson during the Lakas-CMD National Council Meeting on Thursday, November 18. She will succeed Senator Bong Revilla.

The mayor, in her speech, said she is honored to be a part of the high-ranking officials of the party.

"Sa totoo lang, hindi ko kailanman inakala na darating ang araw na ito. Masaya po ako sa Davao City. Marami pa sana akong gustong gawin bilang mayor ng aming siyudad. Pero alam po natin ang nangyari ," she said.

(With all honesty, I never thought that this day would come. I am already happy in Davao City. I was hoping to accomplish more things as mayor of the city., but we all know what happened.)

"Hindi ko na po mahindian ang mga Pilipino. Hindi ko na po mahindian ang Pilipinas," she added.

(I cannot turn down my fellow Filipinos. I cannot say no to the entire Philippines.)

Duterte-Carpio said that she accepted the challenge "with the thoughts of our fellow Filipinos facing extraordinary challenges in the times of the Covid 19 pandemic."

The mayor also said that Lakas-CMD and its members in the country "will never abandon their commitment to the people."

Last week, the mayor joined the party on November 11, the same day when she left Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), the regional party she co-founded in 2018.

Duterte-Carpio filed her certificate of candidacy as vice president in the 2022 elections on Saturday, November 13.

Both the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and the People's Reform Party adopted her as their standard-bearer for the vice presidency.

Meanwhile, PFP's presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. officially announced that Duterte-Carpio will officially be his running mate.
