Board member aspirant leads tree planting

AN ASPIRING Third District board member led a tree planting activity in Barangay La Paz Tutu in Arayat town recently.

Raquel "Ate Kay" Pineda was assisted by personnel of Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and barangay officials and employees of Barangay La Paz Turu.

A total of 300 mahogany seedlings were planted at the foot of Mount Arayat during the said reforestation event.

Pineda said the activity was part of her advocacy on ecological protection and development, especially since Mount Arayat is an icon and landmark of Pampanga.

"I want our kabalen to put a high premium on the importance of protecting our environment to ensure that we have a sustainable source of food supply and be resilient to calamities," she said.

After the tree planting activity, Pineda distributed some 100 food packs to residents of Barangay La Paz Turu.

The food packs contain rice, canned goods, instant noodles, personal protective equipment and new slippers.

As former president of Rotary Club Central Pampanga and a known Kapampangan philanthropist, Pineda has long been involved in civic movement and social programs.

"It has been my personal advocacy and crusade to help fellow Kapampangans through inclusive programs," she said.
