"The Comelec Employees’ Union strongly condemns this yet another killing of an election frontliner," Ramirez said.

"We demand no less than justice," he added.

The poll workers union also renewed its appeal for improved protection among its ranks as the May 2022 polls approaches.

"We reiterate our call for greater protection for Comelec employees as we go all-out in our preparations for the upcoming national and local elections," Ramirez said.

On Thursday, Maghanoy was ambushed and killed in Sitio Gilalan-Gan, Barangay Somoge in Catarman, Northern Samar.

Initial reports said Maghanoy was on his way home riding his motorcycle when the suspect hit him twice, including one in the head.

In October 2021, Maluso, Basilan Election Officer Aknam Hasim and his eldest daughter were critically wounded in a shooting incident in Isabela City.
