Lending firm exec killed; four others hurt in accidents

AN OFFICER-IN-CHARGE of a lending institution was killed while four others were hurt in vehicular accidents in Bago City and Manapla town, Negros Occidental Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Killed was Leonel Gumiling, 30, of Barangay Minoyan Murcia, Negros Occidental, Police Lieutenant Dan Oliver Salazar, deputy chief of Bago City, said.

Investigation showed that the motorcycle driven by Mark Ryan Gumolon, 25, of Barangay Canson in Lacarlota City, with Gumiling as backrider, was heading west of the national highway past 5 p.m. when it ran over sugarcane baggase scattered at the area of Purok Weber in Barangay Don Jorge Araneta.

As a result, Gumolon lost control over the motorcycle and fell on the opposite lane and they were later hit by an approaching truck carrying a cement mixer, investigation added.

Gumiling and Gumolon, both employed at Kauban Lending, were brought to the Bago City District Hospital.

He died while the Gumolon was transferred to the Bacolod City South General Hospital where he is now recuperating.

Salazar said a settlement between the relatives of Gumiling, Gumolon and the driver of the truck identified as Roland Abello is now underway.

Meanwhile, in Manapla town, three were injured when a motorcycle hit the rear portion of a tricycle at the highway along Hacienda Nahulog National Highway in Barangay I-A past 5 p.m.

Police identified those injured as Breget Guadalupe of Barangay 1, Nestor Dela Pena of Barangay Punta Salong, and tricycle driver Christian Guanzon, 33, of the same barangay, all in Manapla town.

They were brought to a hospital for treatment.

Investigation showed that motorcycle rider Ramiro Diosana of Bacolod City was heading north of the highway when he decided to overtake another vehicle hitting the tricycle.
