POLICE forces have intercepted P360,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested one person in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, an official announced Monday, November 22.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the smuggled cigarettes shipment was seized around 6 p.m. Sunday, November 21, in Tiguma village, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Chang said the personnel of the Pagadian City Police Station and Zamboanga Del Sur First Provincial Mobile Force Company were manning a checkpoint when they flagged down a truck driven by Jerwin Glenogo Avila, 40.

Upon inspection, Chang said the truck was found to be loaded with 24 master cases of assorted cigarettes with an estimated market value of P360,000.

She said Avila failed to present pertinent documents pertaining to the transport of cigarettes, thus the confiscation of the cargo and his arrest.

She said the confiscated cigarettes, driver and the vehicle were placed under the custody of the Pagadian City Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
