DAVAO City has already administered over one million first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, the Davao City Vaccination Cluster announced on Monday, November 22, 2021.
According to data as of November 19, the city has already administered 1,010,811 first doses, while 908,101 second doses have already been administered.
This came nearly nine months since the first vaccination of the Covid-19 vaccines in early March this year.
Based on the breakdown per priority groups, 62,269 health workers covered under Priority A1 have received their first dose, while 57,647 second doses have been given.
For A2 or senior citizens, 100,634 were vaccinated for the first dose, while 93,671 were vaccinated for the second dose.
Persons with comorbidities or A3 have 182,184 vaccinated individuals for the first dose, while 93,671 for the second dose.
A3 pediatrics or those ages 12 to 17 years old with existing health conditions have 2,456 vaccinated for the first dose, while 70 have already received their second dose.
A total of 493,711 first doses were given to essential workers under A4 while 500,120 have already been given for the second dose.
As for A5 or the indigent population, 119,298 received their first dose, and 91,733 for second dose.
For the rest of the adult population, 14,210 were immunized on their first dose, while 1,024 for the second dose.
For the rest of the pediatric population, 37,049 got their first dose, while no one has yet received their second dose.
When asked if the city can achieve its targeted 1.2 million herd immunity before the end of the year, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said the city will do its best to achieve it.
“Dili lang pud ta mo-promise, dili lang pud ta mosulti (We will not promise. We will not also say) that we are truly confident. But, paningkamutan nato ma-achieve nato ang demand sa atoa gikan sa (we will work on achieving the demand from our) National Government to hit the target of 100 percent sa target number sa (of our target number of) herd immunity for Davao City," Duterte-Carpio said in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.
She said the number might increase as the city will also participate in the three-day National Covid-19 Vaccination Bayanihan Bakunahan from November 29 to December 1, 2021. The National Government aims to inoculate 15 million people nationwide through the event.
The increased number of vaccinated individuals had resulted in the easing of some restrictions as the city is currently under Alert Level 2 until November 30.
Duterte-Carpio, however, cautioned the public from being complacent in observing the minimum health protocols.
"There will be an incoming surge next year. We do not know when but definitely there will be another surge. It will be fueled by Delta plus [variant], the Christmas celebrations, and the waning effect of vaccines," she said.
According to reports, the Delta plus may be more “highly infectious” compared to the earlier lineage of the Delta variant.
The mayor also emphasized the city's PDTR+V -- Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate (PDITR)+ Vaccination -- as its strategy in case there will be a possible spike of active cases.
According to the Department of Health data as of November 21, Davao City has a total of 53.714 confirmed cases, wherein 302 are active cases, 51,637 are recoveries, and 1,775 died from the virus.
