Abrigo: That’s what friends are for

Space Bar

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s entrance into the chaotic arena of national politics was the grandest spectacle ever in the history of Philippine politics, heralded with the nationwide tour of three VIP green buses.

Marites, Maris, and Mariposa said the VIP buses are a courtesy accorded by the Yanson Group of Bus Companies (YGBC), the operator of fleet buses plying dominantly in Visayas and Mindanao.

YGBC is eyeing concessions on the delayed High Priority Bus System (HPBS) project of Davao city.

No strings attached, but the Dutertes and Yansons have long been friends. That’s what friends are for.

On the same political vein, the operator of Davao Metro Shuttle Inc. (DMSI), a home grown bus company, hosted the BBM-Sara Unity Caravan last Sunday in Tagum City.

DMSI is an awardee of the initial routes under the HPBS project of Mayor Sara. Whether or not the string has been attached, that’s what friends are for.

Candidates for the national positions are hopeful to have their seat come 2022 if they will ride the wave of popularity rapped by the government-controlled media about the “Duterte Legacy.”

Legacy here did not only speak of Duterte’s curricula but a drive to replicate a new president from the same brood.

So that at near sight, the legacy can be bestowed to Rody’s political son, Bong Go. And at far sight will eventually be conferred to the presidential daughter.

Joining the bandwagon to either of the two heirs is an edge. That’s what friends are for.

President Rodrigo Duterte and the controversial Pastor Apollo Quiboloy are bosom friends. Both have their own domain, people and rubrics. Their chemistry can dictate fate to bring on next leaders.

But recently Quiboloy is indicted in the Federal Grand Jury of sex trafficking. The summons came at a bad timing as this may become a game changer for the 2022 national elections. Whether or not the cases prosper, Quiboloy’s flock and band of punters will be clouded with doubt and divided.

Will this administration really extradite a friend to the United States when that time comes? We will know soon if that’s what friends are for.
