Eastern Visayas aims for herd immunity by December 2021

HEALTH officials in Eastern Visayas have ramped up the vaccination efforts against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) as the region aimed to achieve herd immunity by the end of the year.

“The overall rate for Eastern Visayas is currently at 50.3 percent. This is the percentage that the region achieved, so far, in relation to those vaccinated with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccines,” the regional health department said Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

On the vaccination rate with at least one dose versus 70 percent target population for the provinces and cities in the region, Biliran was at the top with 81.9 percent, followed by Ormoc City at 74.3 percent, Tacloban City at 69.4 percent, Southern Leyte at 59.2 percent, Eastern Samar at 55 percent, Leyte at 49.8 percent, Western Samar at 37.6 percent, and Northern Samar at 33.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the regional health department said 32.4 percent of the target population in the region has been fully vaccinated.

As of November 23, the target population with complete vaccination in Biliran was at 46.3 percent, Ormoc at 50.5 percent, Tacloban at 50.9 percent, Southern Leyte at 35.2 percent, Eastern Samar at 41 percent, 35.2 percent in Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar at 41 percent, Leyte at 30.1 percent, Western Samar at 23.8 percent, and Northern Samar at 22.7 percent.

Meanwhile, the regional health department lauded the support of the local officials for their vaccination initiatives.

As of Wednesday, November 24, the Department of Health-Eastern Visayas said the region’s total number of Covid-19 cases was at 51,236, with total recoveries at 50,501 (98.57 percent), total deaths at 612 (1.19 percent), and total active cases at 123 (0.24 percent). (SunStar Philippines)
