THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Zamboanga Peninsula is distributing RxBox telemedicine devices to public hospitals in the region to boost health care services amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

DOST-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Martin Wee said Thursday, November 25, that they will distribute next week nine RxBox telemedicine devices to hospitals in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Basilan.

Wee said the recipients will be the Zamboanga Del Norte Medical Center and Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital in Dapitan City Zamboanga Del Norte, as well as Basilan General Hospital in Isabela City, Basilan province.

Earlier, the DOST-Zamboanga Peninsula has distributed RxBox telemedicine device to three government hospitals in the region.

Wee said the recipients of the devices were the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center, and Margosatubig Regional Hospital in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital in Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay.

The RxBox telemedicine device is being use in the conduct of teleconsultations, thus protecting the health care workers in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The health workers can now attend to more patients while simultaneously safeguarding themselves during the coronavirus fight in their area," Wee said.

He said the RxBox telemedicine device was developed with the goal to deploy it in remote areas where there are a limited number of clinical specialists.

He said the device could keep track of a patient's vital signs, pulse rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and even electrocardiogram data

The recipient hospitals are grateful to the DOST-Zamboanga Peninsula for the unique tool and hopes that the initiative will continue to succeed and benefit the entire region. (SunStar Zamboanga)
