Hotel occupancy up with Cebu now under Level 2 status

THE Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) has reported an uptick in occupancy as Cebu continues to enjoy the ease of restrictions under Alert Level 2 status.

HRRAC president Alfred Reyes told SunStar Cebu that the hospitality industry is seeing green shoots of recovery especially during the holidays.

“It is slowly picking up like on the weekends. The figures are a little bit promising and we hope it will continue to go up as we are waiting for (visitors from) the rest of the neighboring cities and provinces to come to Cebu, especially from Manila,” he said.

Reyes said just for Cebu alone, they are already seeing people going out.

“The confidence is there now that the people are vaccinated (against Covid-19),” he said.

On weekends, Reyes said, occupancy goes as high as 60 to 80 percent as opposed to last year, at the height of the pandemic, when occupancy nosedived to zero but later on picked up to 30 to 40 percent, when travel restrictions were gradually loosened.

“This is already a good sign, although the rates are not the same pre-pandemic. But as of now, as long as you have the domestic tourism to support your operations, that’s good enough,” he said.

Reyes hoped that by December, the Department of Tourism will open the country’s borders to welcome international leisure tourists.

“Then that would be a very good sign for hotels that we can now accept foreign tourists. When that happens, then I could say that the light towards the end of the tunnel is already there,” he said.

Right now, Reyes said hotels and resorts are sustained by domestic tourism from Cebuanos and visitors from other provinces outside Central Visayas.

Cebu Christmas Sale

Meanwhile, to boost business recovery, 14 hotels and resorts in Cebu are now offering affordable accommodation and dining rates of up to 75 percent off to lure more locals to stay and dine in their properties.

HRRAC inked a partnership with WhyQueue, an online store for affordable luxury hotels, to host the Cebu Christmas Sale 2021.

Launched on Nov. 16, the Cebu Christmas Sale offers a wide array of exclusive discounts from room accommodation to dining offers and other perks this holiday season. It sells vouchers valid for one year from the date of purchase.

Guests who want to book rooms or purchase dining vouchers may visit http://cebusale.whyqueue.shop. The sale runs until Dec. 30. (JOB WITH KOC)
