THE Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (Nopsscea) may hold the 41st season of its athletic and cultural events by January next year, the top official of the group said.

Mark Molina, Nopsscea president, said they hope to come up with competitions that would prepare participants from the province for the national Private Schools Athletic Association sports and literary-musical events next year.

Molina said that they want to push through with their online athletics competitions for taekwondo, chess, and even basketball.

For basketball, it will not be a typical team sports, rather it would be more of an individual skills competition, he said.

This will be the same for taekwondo, wherein participants will only showcase their set sequence of movements that consists of the various fundamental stances, blocks, punches and kicks logically arranged in a meaningful order in response to attacks from multiple imaginary assailants or poomsae instead of the usual contact sport, he also said.

Although based on the guidelines of the Department of Health, contact and team sports are allowed in areas under alert level 2 in terms of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) transmission, Nopsscea would like to take precautions by not holding these events.
