STARTING Dec. 1, 2021, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC) will start installing radio frequency identification (RFID) stickers that will allow motorists to use the third bridge.

The third bridge, officially known as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), will be ready for use in early 2022. It is an electronic toll expressway. For a vehicle to pass CCLEX, it needs to have an RFID sticker.

RFID installation is scheduled. To get an appointment, one registers online at https://mptc.outsystemsenterprise.com/ORRAS/.

One has to be ready with details about the vehicle(s) to be registered such as plate number and conduction number. One account can register more than one vehicle.

There are four installation sites—SM Seaside City Cebu and Landers in Cebu City, Anjo World Theme Park in Minglanilla, Mactan Newtown, or Pueblo Verde in Lapu-Lapu City.

Those who have registered need to show the QR code to the RFID installer to verify their appointment.

CCLEC is encouraging those who plan to use the third bridge to register early while RFID installation is still free.

An RFID allows a vehicle to pass the 8.9-kilometer, four-lane CCLEX without being stopped for toll, which will depend on the type of vehicle but its base will be at least P80. Toll collection will be cashless and contactless.

The CCLEX has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. It connects the southern part of mainland Cebu to Cordova town in Mactan Island. Travel time between areas in the south and Mactan is seen to be cut substantially.

According to the CCLEX electronic flyer, installation of the RFID sticker has to be done on a sunny day and curing time is 24 hours.

This means that during these 24 hours, the RFID sticker should not be exposed to moisture or rain and the vehicle should not be washed.

There is a high possibility of the RFID not being read if the sticker is installed on heavy or magic tint (mirror type or one-way tint), V-cool tint, 3M dark tint, platinum tint and ceramic tint.

Since the RFID chip is sensitive, one should avoid applying pressure on it lest it gets damaged.

The CCLEX RFID comes with an RFID card, which is a secondary identification needed at the toll lanes.
