THE Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 has collaborated with the community of motorcycle enthusiasts to further promote the tourism spots in Central Visayas.

In an interview, DOT 7 Director Shahlimar Tamano said tapping this community would allow them to further showcase the tourism jewels of the region especially since they get to potential tourism spots aren’t reached or discovered yet by local tourists.

“They in a way help us identify potential destinations since they drive a lot,” said Tamano.

The DOT 7, in particular, recently partnered with Cebu Loop Endurance Ride 2021, an annual riding event that tests one’s endurance, riding skills, navigational skills and time management that is open to all riders and motorcycles.

Shahlimar said instead of just traversing the usual route, participants of the event pass through various tourism landmarks in Cebu Province such as Toledo Lighthouse, Medellin Bamboo Forest, WorldWar 2 Battle Tank, among others.

They were encouraged to submit their moto-adventure video and photo entries themed “Pitik Safely! Witness Cebu’s Natural and Man-made Wonders” and win cash prizes.

“We are tapping groups to help us promote our tourism sites. As we know, locals have been going up the mountain or the countryside since travel restrictions have been eased and these made our highlands, in particular, a popular destination now,” said Tamano.

Tamano believes groups such as the riders and bikers help promote destinations because they don’t just stop to rest but also snap photos whenever they discover new spots and upload them on their social media accounts or community pages.

“This has now become a tourism activity for them,” he said.

Besides going around Cebu Province, Tamano said the

Cebu Loop Endurance Ride will also mount a Bohol leg in March next year.
