THE Bureau of Immigration has arrested a British man in Bantayan island, Cebu for abusing his Filipino wife as well as other local women.
Charlton William Sydney, 72, now faces deportation after his estranged wife accused him of being an undesirable alien for allegedly abusing and maltreating her.
In a statement Friday, the bureau said agents from the BI Intelligence Division arrested Sydney on Monday in a beach resort in Sta. Fe town.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said he issued a mission order for Sydney’s arrest after the bureau’s Board of Commissioners made the decision to cancel the Briton’s permanent resident visa for being an undesirable alien.
The bureau said Sydney previously held a permanent visa which he acquired by virtue of his marriage to a Filipina.
But the BI cancelled that visa last year after his wife filed a “complaint for undesirability” against him.
In her complaint, Sydney’s estranged wife alleged that when they lived together, her husband physically, psychologically and emotionally abused her.
She further claimed that the Briton also lured poor women to sleep with him in exchange for money, the BI said.
In its order cancelling Sydney’s visa, the BI Board said the Briton had violated the conditions and limitations of his stay as a holder of a permanent resident visa, and that “his presence in the Philippines already poses risk to public interest.”
Sydney is perpetually barred from re-entering the country.
Just last Monday, the BI announced the arrest of another foreigner in Cebu and his pending deportation.
Lebanese Rabih El Acha Hassouneh, 43, was arrested in Basak, Lapu-Lapu City for reportedly working without the proper visa as well as for overstaying.
A mission order had also been issued against him.
