VSP to stage stacked show this weekend

VIETNAM-BASED VSP Promotions is set to stage a stacked boxing show this weekend featuring former Olympian Charly Suarez, promising unbeaten prospect Carl Jammes Martin and one-time world title challenger Michael Dasmariñas.

Suarez will trade leathers with undefeated youngster Delmar Pellio in the main event of Ultimate Knockout Challenge on Dec. 4, 2021 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.

The 33-year-old Suarez, who competed for the Philippines in the 2016 Rio Olympics, has had an impressive year with four wins in 2021. He beat the likes of Jon Jon Estrada, Pablito Canada, Eduardo Mancito and Lorence Rosas.

Though undefeated, the 21-year-old Pellio is coming into this fight from a long layoff. He last fought in 2019 with a fifth round stoppage of Ronel Sungquit.

Suarez is 8-0 with six knockouts, while Pellio is 9-0 with four knockouts.

Martin (17-0, 15 KOs), on the other hand, takes on his stiffest test to date against experienced Mark Anthony Geraldo (38-9-3, 19 KOs) in a Philippine super bantamweight fight.

The 22-year-old Martin is widely considered as one of the future stars in Philippine boxing. He has lived up to his billing thus far and won all of his fights with a high 88 percent knockout rate. He’ll be tested against a legitimate opponent in Geraldo.

Geraldo has fought some of the best in boxing’s lower weight divisions and is the only boxer who owns a win over current International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight king Jerwin Ancajas. He also owns a win over former world title challenger Hirofumi Mukai.

In the meantime, Dasmariñas (30-3-1, 20 KOs) will slug it out with fellow former world title challenger Ernesto Saulong (22-7-2, 9 KOs).

Dasmariñas is looking to bounce back after suffering a third round knockout loss to IBF and World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue on June 19, 2021.

Saulong also wants to return to his winning ways and end a three-fight losing streak. Saluong lost to Criztian Pitt Laurente by unanimous decision in his last fight on March 20, 2021. Saulong fought for a world title in 2018 but lost to then IBF super bantamweight titleholder Ryosuke Iwasa.

In the undercard, Jon Jon Estrada (13-8-1, 12 KOs) faces Jestine Tesoro (5-2, 2 KOs), Roy Sumugat (12-11-1, 6 KOs) takes on Juanito Paredes (8-7-1, 3 KOs), Ranelio Quizo (8-2, 1 KO) is fighting Marvilo Aballe (8-1-2, 3 KOs), Lorenz Ladrada (10-2-1, 3 KOs) squares off with Jason Buenaobra (7-5-3, 3 KOs), Virgel Vitor (15-2, 9 KOs) faces off with Lorence Rosas (9-6-2, 3 KOs), Jules Victoriano (9-4, 6 KOs) exchange blows with Jethro Pabustan (30-8-6, 9 KOs), Jimmy Borbon (7-9-4, 4 KOs) is up against Leonardo Donorio (17-18-3, 11 KOs), Al Toyogon (10-6-1, 6 KOs) takes on Lloyd Jardeliza (8-11-4, 6 KOs), Jufel Salin (3-3, 3 KOs) locks horns with Kresler Tenorio (3-4, 1 KO) and Jonniel Laurente (2-0, 1 KO) kicks off the show against Marlon Bacalando (0-3-3).
