CEBU City has recorded so far its lowest Covid-19 daily positivity rate (DPR) this year on Monday, November 29.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 that it had registered 0.29 percent DPR as only one of the 340 swabbed individuals tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
The DPR is within the World Health Organization’s five percent threshold for positivity rate.
Having a positivity rate of less than five percent for the last two weeks is one of the indicators that the epidemic is controlled.
Positivity rate or percent positive is the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed that come out positive. The positivity rate will be high if the number of positive tests is too high, or if the number of total tests is too low. A higher percent positive suggests higher transmission and that there are likely more people with coronavirus in the community who haven’t been tested yet, according to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School Public Health.
City Councilor Joel Garganera, EOC deputy chief implementer, said they recorded seven new recoveries Monday, November 29.
From over 4,000 active cases in August, Cebu City only had 46 active cases as of Monday. Most of the 46 infected individuals were under quarantine, while seven of them sought treatment in hospitals.
Garganera also said that 58 of the city's 80 barangays reported no new transmission of Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days.
The number of active cases in the remaining 22 barangays were also in decline.
Barangay Guadalupe, which always ranks first in having the most number of active cases , reported only two active cases Monday. It is now ranked ninth among the 22 barangays that still have active cases.
Barangay Lahug topped the list, but it only had four active cases. It is followed by Barangay Capitol Site with three active cases.
Two active cases were recorded in each of Barangays Apas, Basak San Nicolas, Cogon Pardo, Pulangbato and Quiot.
The remaining 11 barangays only had one active case each.
